We all know Vitamin C is good for us, but let's talk about a couple different kinds of it, and why we Love and use them in our Skincare products.
But First, Some Good News! From the Linus Pauling Institute: Regular use of Topical Vitamin C has been shown to decrease wrinkles in skin, reduce protein fiber damage, decrease apparent roughness of skin, and increase collagen production.
And...Topical Vitamin C has also shown to reverse some of the age-related structural changes between the layers of skin.
So....Here are the forms we Love and use!
L-Ascorbic Acid: What is it? A topical form of Vitamin C, that has antioxidant properties, and also plays a role in collagen synthesis, making it a vital molecule for healthy skin. And because aging causes a decline in Vitamin C content in both the epidermis & dermis (the deeper layer), it's never too late to start!
This topical application of Vitamin C, alone or in combination with other compounds, may result in greater photoprotection of skin, more so than oral remedies because of the more direct route of application.
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate: This gem is a very stable oil soluble form of Vitamin C, that can penetrate into the deeper dermis layer of skin.
Topical use can mitigate the damaging effects of UV exposure, and studies have shown it to stimulate collagen production as well as clarifying and brightening of the skin by inhibiting the production of melanin, thereby promoting a more even skin tone.
* At 0.1% it reduces melanin synthesis by 80%
* At 10% it eliminated age spots in 16 weeks
* It increases collagen synthesis by 50%, and helps treat acne.
